This part of my life is called..."I am in a long distance relationship".

This part of my life is called...

"I am in a long distance relationship".

Being in a Long distance relationship....might be one of the most complex pieces of my life. I am still wondering how I ended up in this place, where technology has become my best ally in maintaining my relationship. One minute we were friends, the next we were friends in different countries, and without realizing it we became lovers living in different states.

Interestingly enough my long distance relationship has done a couple of wonderful things for me. First it has made more patient. It's hard to be restless when I know I have to wait to see my king. Secondly it has pushed me to learn to enjoy "me time". I miss my babes and I am constantly looking forward to spending my free time with my him. However, given the importance of having a balanced life, I have learned to just chill. Is ok to miss the king, but the queen must take time to enjoy her family, friends and herself! Next is my favorite, traveling!! The most awesome part of being in a long distance relationship is meeting my lover in a different part of the country, and even the world (why not) every chance I  get. This new venture has taken me to different parts of my beloved Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Aruba, in the USA to Las Vegas, New Orleans, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Flint, Atlanta, DC and Harrisburg just to name a few; all in the last year and half.

There is something refreshing about knowing that each trip brings a new adventure! And although sometimes (well alot of times) I wished my king was a short cab ride away, I am slowly learning to adapt and learn to play with the hand we've been dealt.

I always welcome your thoughts! Tell me what are your views on long distance relationships, and how are you taming the beast! In the mean time enjoy  some of my favorite flicks from my most recent travels!

Besos de Ms. Dulce de Leche

Welcome to Aruba!!

Fitness is a life style!

Its been a while since I've dropped some lines around here! I am going to really try to stick it out guys, I promise!

The last blog post spoke about my weight loss journey since I moved back to the USA. It hasn't been easy but it has definitely been rewarding. Here are some updates!

Since I started grad school (fall 2012) the fitness journey became a little more complicated. Being both a fulltime student and employee I've had to make some sacrifices, but working-out is NOT one of them!  So what if I dont have a social life? that's not important!

How Have I Done It?

There are five priorities in my life, my job, school, church, my health and my loved ones (not in that order). Although I am really busy, identifying my priorities has made it easier to live my day to day. Once I had my top five life simple adjusted itself around those things. Making time for what's important has become a lot easier and simpler. In effort to stay healthy I decided to join the YMCA. In my last post I spoke about why I didn't believe in joining a gym, but I had to give in! It was the only way I could stay fit in the winter. I really enjoy the YMCA. Besides the fact that it is only a 10 minutes walk from my job, it is definitely worth the price. These last few weeks I've been taking the classes and I really enjoy them. The spinning class was definitely challenging in the beginning but by the third class I was good to go. I take classes in the morning from 7 - 8am. I live about 30 minutes from the gym so I usually get up by 6am the latest. If you do not have time to workout you have to CREATE time! Find a gym that opens early or closes late and make it work for your schedule!

There are many benefits to working out, besides the obvious. For me, the gym is the place where I go release the day to day stress from work, school and everything in between. While it would be nice to have a gym buddy, you have to feel comfortable going to the gym alone. If you becoming dependent  on your workout buddy then they will control your workout schedule. The most important part of staying fit is taking control! Do not give someone else the power to change your life!

I've been running for a few years now but I've never done it to compete. This year a friend of mine has inspired me to start competing and I really enjoy it. There is something very exciting about getting to the finish line. I completed my first race March 16th, it was a 10K in riverside in New York City. I finish under an hour which was extremely rewarding because in mt practice round I finished in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I have signed up for two more races for the month of April, one is April 21th and the other is April 28th! Both were great! And now I am registered for 2 runs in July, one is July 13th and the other is July 27th I am very excited and have been training (look out for my training plan next week).

How can you get started in your fitness journey?

America is bad for my diet!

It has been a while since I have updated my blog, my apologies! God has been doing his thing and has kept me very busy!

In any case, since I moved back to America I have had a very hard time staying healthy. While I lived in Honduras I ran, I eat fresh non-processed foods and I worked out on a regular. Less than 4 months after I moved back I managed to gain 20pounds and stopped running all together. I am not exactly sure,  when this happened, or how for that matter. All I know is that one minute I was enjoying my skinny jeans and the next I was trying to figure out why I couldn't fit them.

I want to believe the weather might have had something to do with my weight gain. After all who wants to run outdoors in the winter? Yea, I didn't think so! You might be wondering, why I didn't join a gym like the rest of the world...well I am glad you asked. First of all, I don't like working out in closed quarters. Secondly, I could not bring myself to pay a membership fee for something I can do myself! When I was unemployed I could not afford a gym membership, and once I got a job I did not want to pay for one! Needless to say, who has time for the gym? I live such a  busy life that I need the convenience of the outdoors to stay fit!

I will never forget the moment when I realized I had put on one too many pounds! It was the middle of February and I was facebook living, reviewing some of the pictures from my best friends 25th birthday celebration. I was wearing a sleeveless black dress, and my arms looked huge. I have my friends to thank, they had no problem letting me know I was fat. After reviewing the evidence, I had to admit they were correct!

The Solution!

The first item on the agenda was my diet! Loosing weight is 75% diet and 25% exercise. So I started watching what I ate. Living in a Spanish household, with a mother that constantly cooks for a village, can make eating healthy a mission impossible. However, dieting along with juicing has made a world of a difference. Next, I revisited an old friend. Good ole Mr. Shaun T, if you do not know who that is, you may know him as Mr. Insanity! Yes my friends, the most ridiculous workout known to mankind. Insanity was cool, I died every night and started seeing some results here and there. However, indoor workouts get a little boring to me after a while. So, when it got warm, I started running again! Man did I miss running! At first I really struggled with consistency, but I have been getting much better! After dropping my undesired and unwelcome 20pounds, I have been focusing on keeping them off and working on my beach body!

I have a few tools that I incorporate in my routine! First, my dumbbells! I have had these since college and, although they are only 5pounds when I am done with them I can barely feel my arms. Next is the Ab Wheel. When I first got this puppy in my hands, I was not trying to mess with it. However after almost 2 months of staring at it, and with a little motivation from my lover I decided to put my fears aside and give it a try. Now we are inseparable! Last but not least, is the pull up bar! I am still getting acquainted with this bad boy. However everyday I celebrate a small victory as I build my upper body strength!

Shoutouts to the MapMyRun App! Awesome app to track my morning runs, keep tabs on what I am eating and set fitness challenges to help me stay on track!

That is all for now folks! Look out for the biweekly updates on my fit-to-fit recovery! Remember, only you stand in the way of your beach body! Summer time is almost here, don't get caught with FUPAS ladies! #iamjustsaying

Do you F@%$ at the first tweet: Is Twitter the New form of Foreplay?

I am a very digital girl, text, bbm, twitter, fb, aim, you name it. I love to keep my friends a click away and my phone attached to the hip. Specially now that I moved to Honduras I like to stay in touch and feel like I never left. Today I was chatting up a storm with one of my followers @IAMKILLFACE and he stated ¨The followbback is the modern day version of the "you do me and I'll do you" conversation.¨ Prior to this tweet I was unaware of such notion but after reading it I realized that there might be some truth to it.

It seems like the art of phone calls is slowly going extinct and now getting a text, bbm, or @mention is the best you can get. As an active Twitter user I have been a victim of the ¨let me holla at you¨ via twitter. These conversations don't usually start that way, often it all begins with the follow button. I am never quite sure how this all goes down, how do we make the critical decision to press the follow button and enter someone´s world, read their every thought, and follow their every move. Personally I decide to follow someone if they continuously pop up in my timeline, if I see their bio and is interesting, or if I check out the avi and is a #pantydroppa. I get alot of requests, and usually I check out their tweets, and avi to make a decision.

Once I press the follow button is over, LOL. I like to interact with my followers and at some point they have something sexual to say (this is mainly due to the nature of my tweets, so I am not surprised). Most of them have expressed their interest in #smaging me (smashing and banging) but ofcouse this doesn't go outside of twitter. If I find my followers interesting enough, or resourceful I give them my pin and we move things to bbm. I can't help but wonder, do my male followers think pressing the follow back button is an invitation to my pumpum? If so, what are the implications of the @mentions? or the dms? Back in the day it used to be I dont kiss on the first date, is today becoming I dont have sex at the first tweet?

What are you thoughts, is twitter our generation's form of foreplay?

A Love Letter to the BlackMan.

Since I moved to Honduras and became a teacher, my time has been consumed by my new found responsibilities. I have traded the late nights with the girls, drinking and partying, for late nights at home grading and planning. In the mist of it all I have kept an eye on America via Twitter which keeps me in the loop of the good, the bad and the ugly of the good ole USA. A few weeks ago Tyler Perry's For Colored Girls hit the theaters. I have not read the book or watched the movie to provide a legitimate review, however from the feed back I've seen, it appears that the BlackMan is negatively portrayed, attacked, and stereotyped as the (no good ni**as) we all love to hate.

Many reviews attack Perry's work for contributing to the destruction of the image of the BlackMan. It is no secret that we live in a society, where the BlackMan is depicted as a sociological menace, lacking the ability to prosper and uplift himself and his people. At the same time, there seems to be this notion of dependency between blackmen and blackwomen. Which argues that it is not the blackman that holds the weight or foundation of the family, instead, given the lack of good blackmen, women have taken on this role. I wont address the level of truth of that statement however, I do believe that society has a moral obligation to uplift the blackman. Over 200 years of slavery, segregation, discrimination, and racial destruction hinders the prosperity of the blackman, and yet, he is strong enough to fight through such adversity and make it to another day.

So, to all my Blackmen, this note is for you........

You have risen from the ashes like a phoenix (#NoKanye).
You have built a nation and surpassed all expectations.
Under the bludgeoning of chance, your hard-work, determination and kind heart has persevered. Your beauty is unimaginable, and your love conquers all. You overcome at the face of adversity, and stand strong for your beliefs. Your smile, brightens the gloomiest kind of day. Your passion, is so amazing, leaving me speechless. Your love, loyalty, respect are all unconditional to those who are deserving. You are a son, a brother, a father, and a king. I love you, I appreciate you, and I thank you.

Love,
Yenory

"You illegal little b*tch": Would the battle between blacks and browns ever end?

A few years back, I got the opportunity to see the play Platanos and Collard Greens, which exposes the ongoing feud between blacks and Latinos in the context of interracial relationships. I must say I never truly experienced this type of racism mainly because at first glance people think I am black. More importantly due to my dark skin complexion I can easily navigate both worlds and be easily accepted. I have dated a lot of African American men (it seems to be my preference) and I often hear phrases like "Oh, I didn't know your girl was Spanish, well at least she is black" or "You are not really in a interracial relationship because you look black." However, interracial relationships is not the only battle field between blacks and Latinos. In this recession Latinos mainly illegal immigrants are being accused of stealing jobs from African Americans, which has led them to be unemployed.

Now, lets keep it real unfortunately the majority of the jobs done by illegal immigrants are not the type of jobs done by African Americans. I am yet to meet an African American who mows grass for $5 p/h or works in agriculture making $5p/h sometimes even less. Often as a result of their illegal status immigrants, which comes from all over the world are forced to take those types jobs in their quest for the SueƱo Americano (American Dream). Their intent is not to come to America to deprive others of their rightful jobs, far from it. All these immigrants want to do is save money, take care of their families back "home" and one day go back to give them a better future. Although there are a lot of illegal immigrants in this country, there also an equal amount of legal immigrants whom like myself pay taxes and do things the "right way".

A few days ago, I was ridding the bus on my way to work, and as the bus driver pulled up to the next top everyone ran over to try to get in line to secure a place in the already crowded vehicle. (If you are not from NYC and have no idea what riding the MTA is like, here is a brief description. You pay your fare, get inside and mind your business. If it happens to be rush hours forget about sitting down, and prepare to be bumped, pushed and stepped on by passengers who want to get to their destination because the bus is always crowded.) With that being said the bus driver (who happens to be a Latino) opened the doors and allowed everyone to come inside, suddenly I hear an African Woman yell "You illegal little b*tch, don't you dare challenge me". At this point I looked over to see who she was talking to, and I saw a little girl who couldn't be older than 8 years of age. I was in shock, because the woman was yelling at her and calling her names and cursing every Spanish person on that bus, because the little girl bumped her on her way in. The anger in that woman's voice was indescribable and it really made me think about the "Blacks vs Browns" battles everyone talks about but I had yet to experience. However do we really have to battle each other instead of helping one another?

Please post your thoughts on this issue and any stories you might have! I am extremely interested on what everyone has to say about this topic!
